Anemurium Antique City
Anemurium were mentioned by Francis Beaufort an English naval captain who explored Mersin in 1811-1812.Excavations were directed by Elizabeth Alfoldi, University of Toronto in 1965–1970, and subsequently James Russell, University of British Columbia, along with Hector Williams and his wife Caroline.Fishing equipment, construction, tailor, pottery tools, coins, lead seal, weighbridge, weaving tools, key, lock, game and entertainment tools, craftsman, makeup materials, necklace, earrings, bracelet, gold belt buckles found while excavations.Even when Commagene Kingdom was alive they printed coins for IV.Antiokhos at the antique city.City's walls made at that time probably.Roman Empire used here as a intermediate station and Anemurium had road connection with Germaniopolis which was important city at the Roman Empire's time.In the 4.th century Pers Armies took the city,5.th century was Isaurians here.Isaurians made churches and small hammam.With Isaurians,the city got peace and it was until 6.th century.At 7.th century Arabs came to the city and after Arabs the city was abandoned.
